Supporting departments
We are pleased to receive invitations to visit engineering departments (schools or faculties, at universities or colleges delivering HE), to engage in working with you on an aspect of learning, teaching and assessment. For example, you may have issues arising from your results from the National Student Survey, or you might welcome our support for the implementation of changes in your Learning and Teaching Strategies.
Our working with departments
The Centre can draw on a broad spectrum of expertise, experience and resources from among its staff and Associates, to offer the following options which are available at no charge and can be delivered in either a face-to-face or online format.
Professional development workshops and seminars (face-to-face or online)
The Centre has an established portfolio of pedagogic topics at both strategic and operational levels, Your department can identify a topic from this portfolio - see our list of topics, The listing gives an overview of the workshop, and indicates whether there is a sample PPT; some of the workshops are also available as one of our online seminars. In addition to our listed topics, we can run bespoke workshops (either face-to-face or virtually/online) on a topic of your choice - please contact Simon Steiner for further information.
An ongoing programme of support
The support for your department could begin with an initial visit or discussion to explore your area(s) of interest, followed by a workshop or seminar and then subsequent support and an evaluation of your department's progress in taking the topic forward. Please contact Simon Steiner for further information.
National events programme
The Centre also has an annual events programme and supports the provision of events from partner organisations (eg. other Subject Centres), and outside bodies, such as the engineering strand of the national STEM Programme and the Global Dimension for Engineering Education Project.
Further support
Our work with departments through our portfolio of workshop and seminar topics is complemented by the Centre's provision of Mini-Projects funding, our External Examiners' Register, and network of Departmental Contacts. All these activities are available for academic staff in HE, including those providing HE in FE Colleges.
