The Engineering Subject Centre has a range of activities designed to support academic staff, below we have highlight some of the resources, events and funding opportunities which may be of particular interest to those new to teaching engineering.
Subject-based information and support
Specifically, the Engineering Subject Centre provides subject-based information and support, to complement that available via local staff development units, teaching departments or colleagues.
- The Centre runs events and workshops throughout the year
- The Centre's publications range from a fortnightly informal e-bulletin and tri-annual Newsletter translate, to practice guides and a peer-reviewed journal, Engineering Education
- The Engineering Subject Centre has also produced a series of Teaching guides that have been released in print format and companion web versions. Aimed at the busy engineering academic, the booklets provide a starting point in a number of key areas including personal tutoring and laboratory and design teaching
- The Centre's Resource Database provides links to pedagogic and policy resources in learning and teaching.
- The Centre's funding opportunities include Mini-Projects of up to £3,500 for learning and teaching development and research projects which all engineering academics based in UK HEIs are welcome to bid for
