Higher Education Academy Engineering Subject Centre

Scotland

Inflatable Pod at Glasgow Caledonian University (Courtesey of JISC Infonet)

The Engineering Subject Centre has department contacts at over 80% of engineering departments across the UK and works closely through its contacts and its Associates including at Scottish universities (Strathclyde, Heriot-Watt, and Glasgow Caledonian) to engage with staff in all departments. It does this through its department contacts, visits, development workshops, Open-Call Mini-Project funding, and its Teaching Award scheme.

There are 12 HEIs from a total of 20 in Scotland which offer engineering degree programmes; the Centre specifically made targeted visits to a number of these institutions in advance of its promotion of a special Mini-Project funding for Scotland call, awarding funds to projects at Robert Gordon Aberdeen, Glasgow Caledonian, and Edinburgh. A further Mini-Project has since been funded at Edinburgh.

Scottish Quality Enhancement Themes

The Centre engages closely with the Scottish Quality Enhancement Themes, providing our own webpage that gives guidance and a mapping between the Themes and linkages to the Centre’s own resources.

Higher Education Academy

The Higher Education Academy has a specific webpage for Scotland; the webpage highlights the latest developments in that nation’s activities in higher education.

Academy Scotland Travel Fund 2010-11

This initiative, launched by Academy Scotland in the 2008-09 academic year, is aimed at encouraging the exchange and dissemination of good practices, at the discipline level, throughout the UK. It is specifically aimed at enabling staff and students in Scottish HEIs to engage with colleagues from other parts of the UK and to support their institution's priorities and developments in learning and teaching.
