John Smith Award for outstanding craftmanship. St. Magnus Cathederal at Kirkwall has a copper covered spire. The weather conditions are sever with wind and rain so quality of roofing and durability of materials is of paramount importance.<br />

Building commended for innovation. This most unusual new house and associated music room has been judged worthy of a Commedation fro innovation. The helical shaped roof of the house is designed with vvarying widths of copper trays which reduce in length as the roof spirals from the lower roof to the upper roof.<br />

The John Smith Award for craftmanship. There are 5 separate copper roofs which complient the origical clay titles and link the old and new section of the house. The brief was to creat a dynamic and non-rectilinear design with aesthetic appeal with the functional requirements of long life & low maintenance.<br />

Commended. This building was in 1974. A new floyer has now been added, design as a multi-purpose and accomodating an increasing number of theatre goers. Tha apex of the roof is the natural focus point and this has been given extra emphasis with the detailing around the base of the mast.<br />
