Launch of guide to 'Understanding the UK Mathematics Curriculum Pre-Higher Education'
July 15th, 2010
In order to study a wide range of undergraduate programmes (including those in Engineering and Materials Science), students need to have gained a mathematics qualification prior to entering university-level study. A considerable number of pre-higher education mathematics qualifications are available within the UK and, for those working within the higher education (HE) sector, it is not always clear what mathematics content, methods and processes students will have studied (or indeed can be expected to know and understand) as they commence their university level programmes.
The Maths, Stats & OR Network, in conjunction with the Subject Centres for Bioscience, Engineering, Information and Computer Sciences, Materials and Physical Sciences, commissioned Mathematics in Education and Industry (MEI) to compile a mathematics guide. It was written by Stephen Lee, Richard Browne, Stella Dudzic and Charlie Stripp and outlines what students with given prior qualifications in mathematics are likely to know and be able to do and is written for those within the HE sector.
