Foundation degrees
Foundation degrees were introduced in 2001 with the objective of contributing to the reduction in skills shortages at the associate professional and higher technician level, to contribute to the widening participation agenda and promote collaboration between employers, Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) and Higher Education (HE) providers. Foundation degrees are intermediate level higher education qualifications within the National Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (NFHEQ) and have a number of features that make them distinctive from other awards at this level.
